This work was composed in 1985, the tercentenary of Bach, Handel and Scarlatti, whose influence could not be avoided and is hereby gratefully acknowledged. Originally scored for two solo cornets and brass band, Concertino Classico is also available in versions by the composer for two trumpets (or cornets) and piano, and with the brass band accompaniment replaced by string orchestra.
